Education matters.

As a university professor and former university administrator, Baruti has witnessed the joys and triumphs of students who were well prepared for college and chose the right one. He has also seen students’ frustration at being underprepared for college life, and their agony at attending the wrong college. But it was supporting his sons through the college application process that magnified the need for a platform that centralizes the resources to build a strong educational base and navigate the complex world of college applications.

A B.S. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, hands-on research, and a practiced interest in business have given Bomani a strong skill set in problem-solving and analysis. His leadership in diversity-forward organizations, coupled with his engineering background, has given him unique insight into the intersection of education and students in underserved communities. That blend of experience, talent, and perspective cultivated his passion for founding BoLu, which he believes will transform education.

Olu is BoLu’s “fine-tuned guinea pig.” With BoLu’s help, he received over $3 million in scholarships when he committed to UNC as a Morehead-Cain Scholar, the first merit scholarship in the country. He graduated from UNC, where he studied global studies and entrepreneurship, and now works full time at the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games as a Competition Management Associate. Through extensive travel and schooling across the world, Olu brings a unique global understanding and cultural intelligence. He has also been involved in several startups, equipping him with tools to help transform education.
